HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Steptoe & Johnson PLLC is pleased to announce the addition of Max L. Corley III to the firm’s labor and employment team. Corley will practice in the firm’s Huntington, W.Va. office where he will represent clients in labor and employment matters.
“Max has a talent for navigating clients through the maze of federal and state regulations,” said Steptoe & Johnson CEO Susan S. Brewer. “His many years of experience and his thorough knowledge of workplace health and safety will benefit clients in many industries.”
Corley’s legal career involves defending clients in federal and state workplace safety issues, including MSHA and OSHA compliance. He often represents coal mine operators, contractors, and producers of metals, stone, sand, and gravel in MSHA civil penalty proceedings. He also represents them in Section 110 investigations, Section 105(c) complaints, patterns of violations, and other enforcement issues. He assists operators with accident and fatality investigations, and provides safety and enforcement awareness consultation and training for mine management and safety representatives. As a litigator, he has handled workplace deliberate intent, workers’ compensation discrimination, wrongful death, personal injury, products liability, medical professional liability, and other matters.
Corley earned his law degree from West Virginia University College of Law in 1997 and his bachelor’s degree from Marshall University in 1994.
